Alcohol and Health: What Just One Drink Does to Your Sleep, Brain and Body
Show notes
Alcohol may help you fall asleep faster, feel more sociable and relax in the short term. But that effect comes at a cost: less REM and deep sleep, more anxiety and restlessness the next day, and a higher risk of several types of cancer.
In this episode, we explain what alcohol does to the brain and the rest of the body, what causes “hangxiety,” and why the supposedly healthy glass of red wine is based on flawed scientific assumptions. We also discuss practical harm-reduction strategies for people who consciously choose to drink.

00:00:00: Non-alcoholic beer that actually tastes good, mocktails look the part and a dry January nobody laughs at anymore.
00:00:08: Over last few years an entire industry has sprung up around not drinking.
00:00:12: This is response to something science known for long time Alcohol bad health from very first drop.
00:00:19: Today Max & I are busting most common alcohol myths on The Beyond Lifestyle podcast.
00:00:32: And why?
00:00:32: Oh, well.
00:00:34: That really doesn't fit the theme of this episode at all.
00:00:36: now does it?
00:00:38: no but I actually had a drink.
00:00:40: last Friday i was in a wedding for A very old friend Of mine so of course that Was a very fitting exception and It was a lot of fun too.
00:00:48: But what definitely Really surprised me.
00:00:53: Actually i mean if you Had asked Me ten years ago how much am i going to Drink At This Friends Wedding i would have said Yeah, probably... I don't know.
00:01:03: Knock back seven or eight beers over the course of a day because it starts at two in the afternoon and then you're basically going until two in morning.
00:01:13: so that means spread out over time is actually not even crazy!
00:01:18: And what did i end up drinking?
00:01:21: Like three beers but was never really drunk.
00:01:23: It's nice like this.
00:01:26: You can tell how times have changed.
00:01:29: Yeah, so compared to I mean for us Definitely right.
00:01:33: if you compare it two ten years ago when we were just starting med school.
00:01:37: I say this often There are very few majors where people drink more than medical students in their first semesters.
00:01:43: That's Exactly at least that's
00:01:46: what we believe.
00:01:46: yeah course
00:01:47: We don't have the perfect comparison.
00:01:48: question
00:01:49: is something to be proud of?
00:01:50: yes?
00:01:51: So obviously would say no.
00:01:54: Basically, you just have so many events and especially in those first semesters.
00:01:58: You have the anatomy lab where you have a lot of exams And of course every exam is celebrated.
00:02:03: then there's The cadaver party and so on and so forth.
00:02:07: So it's very institutionalized.
00:02:09: you could say that you just regularly drink alcohol?
00:02:13: I think In your early twenties you don't think about it as much.
00:02:18: now in our late twenties It's different story.
00:02:21: We've also learned a bit more about the whole topic and tracked.
00:02:25: A few things, And seen what it does to us.
00:02:28: so yeah we thought we'd just talk About The Topic of Alcohol a Bit because It's Always a Hot Topic!
00:02:34: And we say or I Say So Often in Every Episode alcohol is always bad every drop Of alcohol Is Bad.
00:02:41: Today were Trying To Back That Up A Bit and Look Into The Whole Topic A Little Deeper Because I find it really interesting when you look at the numbers.
00:02:52: It's, yeah...I think not a secret anymore that younger generation drinks significantly less than older generations right?
00:03:01: So fewer and fewer young people are drinking alcohol.
00:03:05: That is because its hard to say why.
00:03:07: actually of course we know alcohol is bad but also has do with emergence way more alternatives.
00:03:16: I mean, what kind of alternatives were there ten years ago?
00:03:20: Sure.
00:03:20: There was non-alcoholic beer but nowadays you have all kinds of mocktails and every bar or restaurant that you go to really has three different alternatives per drink category right?
00:03:35: so there are multiple non alcoholic beers ,there's non alcohol wine .There're a multiple non-alkoholic.
00:03:46: The options have definitely grown.
00:03:48: That means it's easier and the younger generation also likes to work out or works out more than they did a few years ago, or prefers to stay active.
00:03:57: And that's why yeah It's just not the classic standard plan anymore To get totally wasted on a Saturday night and then waste all of Sunday Right?
00:04:05: Just use it to nurse a hangover.
00:04:10: Yet I still think its crazy when you look at how much alcohol is being consumed.
00:04:15: I looked something up and basically Germany is classically a high consumption country just like Austria.
00:04:21: Austria's actually even a bit crazier than Germany, And per capita from age fifteen-up.
00:04:28: if you look at the average ten point six liters of pure alcohol are consumed.
00:04:33: that doesn't mean Ten point six litres of beer exactly per year.
00:04:37: Yeah and If you convert that into actual beer wine or liquor then Those are crazy numbers.
00:04:44: I mean, that's two hundred twelve liters of beer or eighty eight liters of wine Or twenty six point five liters of liquor.
00:04:53: just imagine that in one year right?
00:04:55: That's crazy but that's
00:04:56: an average.
00:04:57: That's the average.
00:04:59: that means because a lot of people don't drink any alcohol at all and they're included In these statistics other People must be drinking A disproportionately high amount for These statistics to end up this way.
00:05:10: Right I mean mind-blowing.
00:05:12: and if you break it down to a week, It's over four liters of beer per week on average.
00:05:18: That means If we don't drink alcohol someone else has to make up for our litres.
00:05:23: so still hair raising amounts You could say right?
00:05:27: And average yeah that the nice thing is.
00:05:31: what We're seeing now probably won't be The case in the future because the next generation today's youth is not necessarily our generation, but the younger generation.
00:05:40: They're already drinking significantly less right?
00:05:43: If you look at twelve to seventeen year olds.
00:05:46: twenty-twenty five years ago it was almost eighty percent.
00:05:49: now It's just a bit more than fifty percent So almost a reduction of twenty five thirty percent.
00:05:54: That's quite a lot and actually very nice trend.
00:05:58: Regular consumption also declining.
00:06:00: The only thing that remains relatively stable Is classic binge drinking.
00:06:07: People drink less, they drink less frequently.
00:06:10: Less regularly but when they do drink They still get hammered just like twenty-twenty five years ago right?
00:06:16: At parties at least
00:06:17: for sure.
00:06:18: so classic classic binge drinking that's more common in men than in women of course.
00:06:22: But the excess has remained the same even if the frequency and the amount And the overall frequency is simply decreasing.
00:06:32: That Yeah it really quite interesting.
00:06:36: The whole middle age to older generation is buffering that right?
00:06:41: So the ten point six liters of pure alcohol on average per year That has to come from somewhere.
00:06:48: and if the youth drinks so much less, uh...the older generation drinks that much more.
00:06:53: If this statistic is staying stable.
00:06:56: There's still a big Big I'll say problem in-in-in the whole social aspect also In the way Alcohol Is Still Viewed.
00:07:07: I mean, if you think about it.
00:07:08: Do you believe that?
00:07:10: If alcohol were to emerge today do You think It would still be approved in the form we have at tonight?
00:07:17: absolutely not i really Think Absolutely Not.
00:07:20: Because Alcohol is so So Incredibly Bad for The Body And Accordingly Also a Crazy.
00:07:29: I Mean.
00:07:29: Smoking Is Gradually Getting More Expensive as Gradually Being banned more and More and from my Perspective I mean, we'll certainly get to that.
00:07:36: We're probably touch on it a few more times later But from my perspective the study situation with alcohol is at least as bad Or as negative let's put it that way right.
00:07:45: so Alcohol is really in every respect bad for every cell and your body.
00:07:50: And then the crazy thing about alcohol is also We.
00:07:54: alcohol actually has great properties.
00:07:56: you can use it to disinfect its water and fat soluble.
00:07:59: but The crazy thing Alcohol can enter every cell of your body virtually without any barrier and just go there like at anytime.
00:08:09: That means you drink a beer, and it can distribute itself throughout your entire body right?
00:08:13: And that is quite different from nicotine or the harmful substances You take in through smoking.
00:08:18: those are much more localized.
00:08:20: Right alcohol acts immediately Throughout the entire body and I don't think would be approved again.
00:08:28: even believe if you were to look at completely objectively then probably some things like, I don't know, psilocybin.
00:08:35: So magic mushrooms and stuff...I think those would be legal.
00:08:39: alcohol would be illegal.
00:08:41: And with alcohol there's also the fact that it exacerbates so many social problems right?
00:08:46: And-and also brings them with it!
00:08:48: It has.. I mean i like to drink alcohol myself sometimes ,i don't want to be a big basher here.
00:08:55: but on other hand you have say if u look at completely objectively There's really almost nothing good about alcohol and that's the really crazy thing.
00:09:04: The only good thing about alcohol is, on the other hand you just can't look at it so objectively.
00:09:09: You have to see okay It's a social thing.
00:09:12: That means Yeah we go to bar We all drink beer together And talk If you don't drink alcohol.
00:09:20: I would say this Is true You often do less because you dont even want To get into drinking alcohol And that means social interaction de facto suffers a bit.
00:09:33: That's why there are some well-known psychologists who say, yeah actually the worst thing can happen to young generation of men right now for example is drinking less alcohol because they go out much less with friends and so on but in turn it turns into a social problem.
00:09:52: But theoretically yes, theoretically its definitely super bad Yeah.
00:09:58: The problem there is certainly that it has also been a part of society for such a long time, right?
00:10:05: Alcohol hasn't just existed for one hundred years but has existed for a few thousand years and A real ritual has developed around in the way people Toast to things.
00:10:16: they toast their own health as paradoxical as possible.
00:10:22: So you toast your own health with alcohol which actually completely contradicts itself.
00:10:27: it has such a strong role as social glue that, yeah.
00:10:32: It does bring people together in turn right?
00:10:35: And uh...it's easy to say alcohol should be banned and ought to be banned.
00:10:42: I don't know.
00:10:43: how do you see this issue?
00:10:44: Do you think we would make sense To ban alcohol ?
00:10:47: Do You Think We Would Be Doing Ourselves A Favour With That?
00:10:52: Yeah so i'm actually like generally not fan of bans.
00:10:57: I think, actually don't.
00:10:58: it's that positive because the moment you ban things a black market sort of develops.
00:11:02: but thats more political societal issue.
00:11:06: Generally when i look at from health perspective though would probably make sense to make alcohol insanely unattractive in Scandinavian countries where its just incredibly expensive to buy alcohol similar what they're doing with cigarettes right now.
00:11:25: If they then maybe lowered some other tax in return That might be a pretty positive development And everyone would benefit and above all that also incredibly lowers the costs of the entire health care system, right?
00:11:38: So I don't even want to know if you really let's say take all the trickle-down effects of alcohol.
00:11:43: Think about what does that actually cost the taxpayer annually just because alcohol is consumed?
00:11:49: Sure it also brings in taxes no question.
00:11:51: but Is that really proportional?
00:11:54: Right?
00:11:56: And accordingly, yeah it would probably be a net benefit if it were banned.
00:12:00: Probably
00:12:03: Yeah.
00:12:03: I see.
00:12:03: very similarly we are also liberal society and you shouldn't necessarily always have to ban everything and force people into things because i think we could do better with this education on how bad alcohol is.
00:12:18: We've learned in the US in the twenties and thirties they banned alcohol once And that didn't help at all because then, like you said a black market emerged around it and people just did behind closed doors.
00:12:30: So... That didn't necessarily solve the problem.
00:12:33: but what does help of course is making more expensive raising taxes on it banning advertising so-and-so forth right?
00:12:43: Just saying you can't advertise alcohol The way do for tooth brush would already helped Because it has less exposure, you'd see less of it.
00:12:55: It's less omnipresent and that would certainly not immediately but over years and decades lead to people.
00:13:02: What is admittedly interesting though?
00:13:03: Is that its already going down right.
00:13:05: the consumption Right.
00:13:06: That's actually already so maybe not in older generations But in a younger one.
00:13:11: Yes
00:13:12: Theoretically we have this wash out effect.
00:13:15: You say if look fifteen twenty thirty years into future And young generation keeps going like they are then alcohol consumption will probably decrease by thirty, forty-fifty percent.
00:13:27: Right?
00:13:27: Yeah and I think that a lot of...I mean surely it's also bit of the social isolation That our generation definitely has more of than older generations.
00:13:36: But i also thing is just fact that nowadays people really know so precisely that its bad And I think can always be an argument for many Just having this knowledge.
00:13:49: we're doing even more intensively today with this episode To have a good reason to also say no sometimes and say okay, why am I actually doing this right now?
00:13:57: So if i think about it soberly If i drink this beer today It's a nice evening.
00:14:02: I drink one beer which means i won't even really Have a buzz.
00:14:05: so that means i don't Really have any real difference from drinking This beer.
00:14:10: but the real Difference is That The next morning i wake up super unrefreshed And i already know that Now.
00:14:17: and i have this realization because i have A tracker Which super many in our generation have And they all say, yeah actually it's not worth it anymore.
00:14:25: It is just not worth if you drink for real because actually you sleep poorly anyway right?
00:14:32: I think that this awareness has been created so much more through the wearables than we've seen before.
00:14:42: and then on other hand when looking at our parents generation there are no generations bashing here but... They really don't have those on their radar.
00:14:51: There are people who drink one or two glasses of wine every day and that's the most normal thing in the world, but for them.
00:14:57: That's not alcoholism And I find that so crazy.
00:15:00: like if i drank a glass of wine everyday it...I would feel SO miserable!
00:15:04: I would feel truly terrible.
00:15:07: and Strictly speaking..that is actually already mild alcoholism right?
00:15:11: And unfortunately you have to call it what It IS.
00:15:13: and its unbelievable how many People Are Actually stuck In This Mild Alcoholism and-and that Is I Would Claim In The Generation From Fifty to seventy, really common.
00:15:25: I mean what you have to say is tolerance does change too right?
00:15:29: If you started drinking your glass of wine every day now You wouldn't feel as bad tomorrow As if you did that for two or three months Or a year.
00:15:38: so That kind of distorts the picture again Right that people who do it regularly don't even have those subjectively noticeable effects as strongly anymore, that they feel bad the next day.
00:15:49: That their like hung over and yet of course They still have all this cellular damage right?
00:15:55: So The body hasn't...the body can't deal with acetaldehyde any better.
00:16:00: just because you drink more often it's still Just as harmful And that is a classic I'll say More or less linear curve Right?
00:16:16: So it's not like there is some safe amount of alcohol and up to that point, everything is fine.
00:16:22: That simply doesn't exist.
00:16:24: but yeah... Yeah!
00:16:25: It generally also just difficult because maybe come back a bit.
00:16:29: Its' not just the alcohol is taxed and state has revenue from it.. Also have whole value chain
00:16:34: right?!
00:16:34: There are winemakers, breweries, culture And it creates jobs probably relatively small one relatively speaking, but it is still an economic sector.
00:16:48: And whenever something like that is at stake of course It's always difficult to say okay We're going to try to restrict that as much as possible right?
00:16:55: I just recently read in the news That red wine Is currently selling so poorly In some cases that winemakers are thinking about turning it into industrial alcohol.
00:17:04: Just too somehow Still get its sold Right.
00:17:07: So that is already
00:17:08: Wow Okay crazy
00:17:11: You see these effects just like German cars aren't selling as well anymore.
00:17:14: It's also the case that people are simply drinking less in Europe and all the manufacturers then of course stuck with the goods, right?
00:17:23: And That's not just a European phenomenon But it's also The Case In The US Also In Asian Countries.
00:17:29: People Are Just Drinking Less Alcohol Globally And Thats Nice!
00:17:33: That Is Definitely To Be Welcomed...It Would be nice if were even less.
00:17:36: So you can See That In The Numbers too
00:17:38: Although it is already the case, I think in these emerging markets.
00:17:42: We haven't fact-checked this we should probably add but i think in those emerging markets alcohol consumption is actually going up because that's also a sign of wealth in quotes or economic growth.
00:17:53: That why maybe have to be careful there?
00:17:55: Because i don't know asian countries has gone up like Korea and so on But we'd have to check again.
00:18:02: In any cases trend in western hemisphere Definitely going down, right?
00:18:08: Mm-hmm.
00:18:09: And I mean with these emerging markets It is already the case that it could be a similar phenomenon to what's also happening around fast food diabetes and the like.
00:18:18: Is.
00:18:19: they're all catching up of course and They are in a way where we were if you go back a few decades Right.
00:18:26: They now have this availability Of In quotes worse food through all these fast food chains and through this whole industry That has grown up around it.
00:18:37: That's finding its way there now.
00:18:39: if you look at India and partly also China right the crazy problems They're going to have in the coming years and decades or Brazil is I think another Another example of that.
00:18:48: The problems they are Going To Have with Diabetes With Cardiovascular Diseases, they just catching up on everything Right?
00:18:53: That wasn't like that before because they ate completely differently lived Completely differently worked completely differently.
00:18:59: the wealth that these countries experience over time Also brings Problems with it In a Way.
00:19:05: So everything we have today is on its way to becoming exactly the same there.
00:19:11: And, We are just at a point where say okay now it's stop!
00:19:14: Now you can't go like this and change something again... They will also reach that point eventually but with time delay right?
00:19:22: Alcohol is certainly good example of that too.
00:19:25: Totally
00:19:26: if you look what actually happens in alcohol in your body.. It not alcohol per se thats harmful Alcohol is first made into something harmful in the body.
00:19:39: So acetaldehyde is formed from alcohol, and acetalide is what causes all that damage.
00:19:45: it destroys DNA.
00:19:47: It's responsible for us feeling sick next day especially if you've drunk a lot of alcohol.
00:19:53: And this rate of breakdown of this acetal-dehyd can't really be accelerated by drinking a large amount now.
00:20:03: It's always relatively stable.
00:20:04: Yeah, that's genetically predetermined.
00:20:06: it's weaker in women than in men.
00:20:09: That's why Men on average also Tolerate alcohol better then Women and of course In Young people.
00:20:18: so in very young People if you think Of ten to fifteen year olds?
00:20:22: Its Also less Developed Than in Thirty or Forty Year Olds right?
00:20:27: That Means its Just Slightly Less Tolerated by Young People And Women Then By Adult Man.
00:20:33: Yes, this acetaldehyde just destroys everything.
00:20:38: That is basically the reason why alcohol is carcinogenic and not only increases the risk of cancer but alcohol actually a carcinogen.
00:20:48: so it's causally linked to seven different types of cancer especially colon cancer very common classic esophageal cancer too pancreatic.
00:21:01: That doesn't mean that everyone who drinks alcohol gets something like that.
00:21:04: It also doesn't means someone who doesn't drink alcohol can get something, I think such a common misconception when it comes to smoking because people say if they don't smoke i still have lung cancer.
00:21:18: Yes sure but ninety five percent of lung cancers develop in people who smoke right?
00:21:24: So the increase risk you contribute is enormous there.
00:21:30: And with alcohol, it's similar and you already mentioned genetics.
00:21:34: It is very common in Asian countries that people don't tolerate alcohol well at all right?
00:21:39: That is simply due to a genetic peculiarity because this breakdown of acetaldehyde so Acetaldehyd is formed from alcohol... ...and this acetalide is then broken down again by a special enzyme made as harmless as possible.
00:21:55: In Asian regions.
00:21:57: these People who live there, who were born their simply have a weaker expression of this enzyme that breaks down the harmful acetaldehyde.
00:22:05: That means if they drink alcohol anyway They feel much worse than we do when we drink alcohol and they also Have a significantly increased risk for all kinds of cancer because acetalide causes the cancer And they don't manage to break it down as efficiently
00:22:23: pancreas.
00:22:24: so especially for esophageal cancer The risk is increased.
00:22:28: And that's really a nasty one, you have to say because You can't just operate on that easily right?
00:22:35: Because you only have one esophagus and That then Yeah not so easy!
00:22:42: Then there's also the reason why you still feel good at first when you drink alcohol.
00:22:46: Hmm yeah I mean what alcohol net...I think the main argument for drinking alcohol Is actually the effect.
00:22:54: Right.
00:22:54: i think we don't need to beat around the bush And the nice thing about alcohol is that it basically... The inhibitory, so we have GABA.
00:23:09: GA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the body and alcohol enhances that right?
00:23:16: On the other hand We have an excitatory neurotransmitter called glutamate Right!
00:23:22: That in turn is dampened And what that actually does in the end is we generally feel less anxious, much more relaxed.
00:23:32: Or at least we feel that way right?
00:23:33: So we feel more relaxed and less anxious which means we are more confident or positive so on... That's of course a super good feeling first!
00:23:48: Do it at least.
00:23:49: I've noticed quite often that people quickly take a shot before presentation or something because then you're not like drunk right?
00:23:55: That means, You can still speak clearly and everything.
00:23:58: Right but you Still have the slightly more relaxed vibe And that's what alcohol does.
00:24:04: in The end of alcohol is extremely good At that.
00:24:07: What really interesting.
00:24:08: i read into it A bit deeper yesterday.
00:24:12: Alcohol definitely Does that But if use it regularly it leads to when you don't drink alcohol and regularly is like two or three times a week, at least do being more stressed.
00:24:23: When you don' t drink alcohol so the effect so-to speak already intensifies in other direction.
00:24:28: that means even from two of three time's we have problem actually develop certain dependency on this feeling right?
00:24:34: And thats actually heavy because its not rare for people to drink two or threetimes a week but makes your everyday life stressful.
00:24:42: cortisol goes up You have less of this inhibitory neurotransmitter and you feel less relaxed, right?
00:24:49: So really interesting.
00:24:51: I hadn't had that on my radar either but it fits in quite well with the topic we'll get into a moment.
00:24:56: And what alcohol also does because of that is What it additionally does is sedating effect.
00:25:07: That means when you've had alcohol then you lie down and fall asleep ultra-fast.
00:25:12: That
00:25:13: means a lot of people then also frequently just drink alcohol in the evening after work to wind down a bit.
00:25:18: So, they're relaxing effect and you fall asleep much faster
00:25:21: Unless you've really drunk so much that everything is spinning.
00:25:24: Well
00:25:24: yeah
00:25:25: And falling asleep sometimes difficult but... Yeah
00:25:28: Of course we all probably experienced this before
00:25:31: Not classic everyday drinking.
00:25:33: You are almost sick right?
00:25:36: I think everyone knows it.
00:25:38: Anyway You fall asleep fast But now the problem is that it's actually not because you really fall asleep faster, but that you actually lose consciousness.
00:25:48: Faster right?
00:25:50: That's really a sedating effect so more of an I'd say drug induced affect and That in turn also leads to the entire sleep architecture Actually being affected by alcohol by alcohol.
00:26:03: Right.
00:26:04: that means we just don't have this class This classic sleep architecture with deep sleep then REM phases and occasionally light phases in between.
00:26:12: or rather we still have them but they are significantly, significantly restructured.
00:26:15: That means that much less deep sleep and especially much less REM sleep right?
00:26:20: And also fits in very well with the topic of us somehow feeling more stressed afterwards because REM sleep is basically lost and REM sleep extremely important to I'd say organize ourselves mentally Right!
00:26:31: To wind down a bit maybe put things into perspective whether their bad ,whether there's less bad...that mean you have a significantly more stress feeling after waking up And and so it all kind of comes together, right?
00:26:44: So on the one hand a really positive effect at the beginning which then however triggers A small cascade that in The end actually only causes problems.
00:26:53: Right entirely independent Of the cellular damage also mental problems That Then Actually go Hand-in-hand with It Which are super subtle right.
00:27:02: but of course I think anyone who is Who Is Really not drunk for a while and then drinks again knows this feeling the next day when you've Drunk and You're like.
00:27:11: Somehow everything is a bit crappy today, right?
00:27:14: So somehow just not nice.
00:27:16: You somehow have the feeling like hmm Like I didn't start the day well some how things stress me out more.
00:27:24: um i sometimes Have the feeling that That situations don't go the way I'd liked them to write.
00:27:31: so it's generally such A very very strange subtle Feeling I think and that can actually be explained Very-very Well.
00:27:39: yeah It's basically a type of hangover, but not the one people usually mean in everyday language where you just feel lousy because you might feel nauseous.
00:27:49: You're really dehydrated and can't really get rehydrated all day And often The Hangover only disappears once you've had another good night's sleep right?
00:28:00: So Sunday is ruined.
00:28:02: But if you sleep well again from Sunday to Monday then you just feeling fine on Monday Unless you rarely drink alcohol and are getting a bit older then at some point.
00:28:11: You need two days to fully recover.
00:28:14: But what you described earlier, that's this classic anxiety which is actually a real term.
00:28:20: It's actually pretty funny And in the end it has to do exactly with what?
00:28:24: You described earlier.
00:28:26: so we have the break and the gas pedal We have this GABA and this glutamate and when you drink alcohol if you imagine The whole thing as a scale then this scale is shifted to one side, right?
00:28:40: And more break is activated and the gas pedal is backed off a bit.
00:28:45: That means you feel relaxed You feel calm A little uninhibited.
00:28:51: The next day when we wake up it flips.
00:28:54: So if you haven't drunk anymore alcohol there was certain break Then the whole thing flips to opposite.
00:28:59: that means GABA is down regulated Glutamate is upregulated You're a bit more anxious, you are more nervous and just don't feel that good.
00:29:08: And it's this classic let say psychological hangover... ...and happens even after drinking alcohol just once!
00:29:17: So if you don't usually drink alcohol.. ..you'll feel it the next day too.
00:29:22: If you drink alcohol more often then the whole thing shifts your balance throughout the week.
00:29:28: Then even when you aren't generally stressed by drinking alcohol frequently, you just put yourself in the situation where this scale then flips to the opposite side.
00:29:40: To balance itself out again and Then you suddenly feel like your a bit stressed anxious And that actually creates this vicious cycle.
00:29:48: Where?
00:29:48: You say yeah But now I'm stressed and i'm so nervous anyway.
00:29:52: So now i'm definitely going to drink alcohol to calm things down A bit.
00:29:54: Again right but if you were to stop Now and not Drink alcohol for two three four weeks or thirty days, then it balances out again.
00:30:05: It doesn't feel good and you just have to get through it to some
00:30:09: extent.".
00:30:19: and how often you open it completely unnecessarily.
00:30:34: I find that quite interesting, So there's not just this classic physical, let say withdrawal but also the psychological component with alcohol that you don't feel good.
00:31:11: What comes into play which we almost didn't mention is dopamine right?
00:31:16: It's highly dopaminergic and more dopamine released when you drink alcohol.
00:31:22: But of course it leads to a crash Afterward when so much unnatural dopamine is released while you're drinking right and a dopamine low Is never good because?
00:31:32: You feel demotivated.
00:31:34: it's actually very, very similar to anxiety.
00:31:37: So that definitely plays a role too And That of course applies to all two things that are highly dopaminergic.
00:31:43: It's also the case with marijuana for example or even cocaine.
00:31:47: They're also highly dopaminergic substances where you always have a crash The next day so you can't even prevent yourself from feeling Mentally drain the next day.
00:31:56: Mm-hmm and if you reframe The whole thing a bit it's actually that alcohol triggers the very anxiety That it relieves in the short term, right?
00:32:06: So You feel a bit nervous And you're a bit jittery.
00:32:11: let say and now you drink alcohol to fix It but the alcohol is in turn exactly responsible for making you Feel that way again the next morning.
00:32:20: That's practically this vicious cycle that you get into and why many people, especially when there are everyday problems.
00:32:28: When they're our problems at work or when their problem is at home maybe even both together quickly reach for alcohol because the think yeah well but that winds me down.
00:32:37: I need it now because i want to escape a bit.
00:32:40: in reality It only makes the problem worse.
00:32:43: You have short benefit while benefiting quotation marks.
00:32:46: In the end, alcohol has the same effect as benzodiazepines.
00:32:49: Just not a strong right?
00:32:51: So benzos are classic sedatives.
00:32:53: they're used for anxiety disorders.
00:32:55: They're sometimes used for sleep disorders but it should really only ever be very short term.
00:33:00: Alcohol is The Only Thing Similar To Benzodiazepine That Is Consumed in A Totally Socially Accepted Way For Years and Decades And Yet It Causes The Exact Same Problem.
00:33:13: Right just a bit worse.
00:33:16: And now I can still remember well for many, many years and decades.
00:33:45: was actually that in the study,in the group of people who didn't drink alcohol there were a lot of former drinkers in their and That means they had already drunk alcohol.
00:33:59: In the past that means they were less healthy.
00:34:02: They might have already had many follow-up problems cardiovascular problems And so on and so forth.
00:34:08: and if you factored that out So If You Really Took Out These Former Drinkers Then of course there was no effect anymore, right?
00:34:16: So then you immediately knew okay the group that drinks even just this one glass of alcohol they're not healthier.
00:34:23: They die earlier...they have more cardiovascular problems and so on and so forth.
00:34:27: And that contributed a bit to this whole reframing where people said Alcohol is bad from very first drop The worse it gets.
00:34:38: There's no U-shaped relationship like with many other things Where you say, yeah a little bit doesn't hurt then there's an optimal amount and the whole thing turns negative.
00:34:48: but it simply is.
00:34:51: A curve that starts at zero end from one drink already goes up.
00:34:56: actually quite interesting because very similar data situation also existed once with overweight being slightly over weight was the case of.
00:35:06: people said okay being a little overweight seems to be healthy when we look at population data.
00:35:12: But then people thought, yeah actually somehow that sounds illogical right?
00:35:15: That's just how it is for now.
00:35:17: And they looked at more closely and saw okay wait a minute we have all the smokers who tend to be slimmer.
00:35:24: We actually have factor them out.
00:35:25: now.
00:35:26: of course we also have cancer or some kind illness which tends to lead to becoming slimmer not necessarily anorexic right away, but slimmer.
00:35:42: And if you factor them all out then suddenly being overweight was very clearly negative again.
00:35:46: so that is a very similar case.
00:35:48: I think it's super interesting.
00:35:50: yeah and i've already said that's like a classic dose response curve the more you drink.
00:35:54: it starts with one little glass for people who don't even drink just one glass per day on average maybe two or three times It already starts right.
00:36:04: women are ready have an increased risk of breast cancer.
00:36:07: everyone has been increase risk of colon cancer.
00:36:09: every one hasn't.
00:36:10: An increased risk pancreatic cancer.
00:36:13: that means it is never its never good.
00:36:16: it's never a health decision.
00:36:18: always trade off for yourself.
00:36:19: does this have to be right now or not?
00:36:23: and i think thats where you actually want.
00:36:25: get too, don't drink alcohol out habit anymore but always ask your self the question Always think about the next morning.
00:36:33: Is it worth it to me right now?
00:36:36: So that you always have a bit of a cost-benefit calculation for yourself and say, hey if I sit down with friends after work Now why do i have To go to a bar And drink beer?
00:36:46: Of course i can still Go to a Bar but Why Can't i Drink A non alcoholic Beer?
00:36:50: Why Don't i drink A sparkling water With lemon?
00:36:54: So why does it actually always have to be this alcohol?
00:36:58: Is so then its purely the social aspect because I can still meet up with my friends?
00:37:02: or is there another reason that i say, as it could possibly be in science.
00:37:23: I
00:37:23: would probably frame it a bit differently, i wouldn't say does this have to be right now?
00:37:28: because that is of course framed very negatively...I would simply say okay um..isn't worth today like that?
00:37:34: Right so you make fundamental decision do still want to drink alcohol and then....i think we're both on the side.
00:37:42: uh...we do enjoy sometimes don''t
00:37:44: we??
00:37:44: And thats why we do.
00:37:48: but the question should ask yourself then ok Is today a day where I say, okay?
00:37:53: I accept that tomorrow Logically.
00:37:56: I won't really be able to perform for half the day.
00:37:59: My head won't be quite there.
00:38:00: I might feel a bit weird but I accept That because tonight i'm having A great time with my friends right and that is then Really a good fair deal.
00:38:09: Some things only happen when you've been drinking Right so sometimes evenings are just more fun When you have been drinking And everyone does it together like that.
00:38:18: So There's nothing wrong With either.
00:38:20: But yes, you have to I think every time or you should ask yourself this question.
00:38:24: Everytime and You shouldn't actually See alcohol as if it was something different from marijuana From cocaine whatever.
00:38:34: It's Actually Nothing Different.
00:38:35: right in the end If you were To go now i mean Cocaine Marijuana Were Long Illegal.
00:38:41: Then You Really Made a Very Very Very Decided Choice Yourself Okay?
00:38:46: I'm Doing This Now.
00:38:48: So if you do that as an illegal drug, then you really actively decide.
00:38:50: okay I'm going to this today.
00:38:52: But now some people do it regularly but i'd say the first time will definitely make a very decided decision.
00:39:00: and with alcohol its like oh we're eating at restaurant so ill just have a glass of wine with it right?
00:39:06: It's somehow part of it and I think should banish from your head something different than those other two things.
00:39:17: It's exactly the same.
00:39:18: Also, at least as bad and you will feel worse The next day right?
00:39:24: That is very clearly proven And we don't need to beat around the bush and that's why the question Is rather okay!
00:39:30: Is it worth today
00:39:30: Right?!
00:39:31: Do I accept Today that i'll Feel Worse Tomorrow?
00:39:34: Sometimes that makes total sense I think and also a nice thing But then really often Makes no sense.
00:39:41: You definitely get out of this regular drinking Very quickly if you ask yourself This question regularly
00:39:47: And you can also just do another little reframing where, when it's about having a drink at breakfast on the weekend or going out in the evening instead of asking like what am I missing out?
00:40:02: It is fun whatever.
00:40:04: Just ask yourself What Am i actually gaining right so that That I feel better in the morning that i sleep better, wake up rested and don't completely waste one day of weekend which only last two days anyway.
00:40:18: But can still use that date to spend time with friends family so on and so forth right?
00:40:24: You'll feel better.
00:40:25: you dont have this anxiety like maybe drinking alcohol again because many people know hair of a dog where say exactly when it feels bad.
00:40:37: The best way to feel better again is just have another hair of the dog or a hangover beer, Or drink alcohol.
00:40:44: And sure you feel better because your body then levels out this break but that only pushes down the road.
00:40:51: So... You can do same.
00:40:54: reframing between alcohol relaxes me.
00:40:56: Just think like okay Alcohol actually postpones stress and intensifies it.
00:41:03: And is it worth to me to feel relaxed tonight and not feel disproportionately worse tomorrow than if I just don't drink alcohol today.
00:41:12: So asking yourself this question sometimes an answering for your self isn't personally worth that too many.
00:41:20: Is i think the first step in?
00:41:22: the second step is certainly when you go out and sit down with friends somewhere and have a drink endure maybe be only person who Isn't drinking it's often the reaction of others.
00:41:37: That's a bit irritating, right?
00:41:39: Oh come on have a drink and one more is fine today.
00:41:41: And what's wrong with you?
00:41:42: why aren't you drinking alcohol today?
00:41:45: I find that incredibly rude Of the people who asked these questions because it's none-of their business.
00:41:50: So if i drink alcohol then that's my decision to drink alcohol.
00:42:02: You know that sometimes from smokers, I've heard a few times too.
00:42:06: When three people always go out to smoke then it's never like do you want the cigarette too?
00:42:10: Because everyone smokes anyway.
00:42:12: and when one stops don't you wanna smoke one or two as if you need another person justifying your own consumption because others smoke?
00:42:25: And that's becoming rarer anyway, and especially in the younger generation it is much more accepted.
00:42:30: You don't hear these comments as often anymore but if you catch yourself doing something like this when you go out with other people then just stop because I think its classless simply rude to not respect others who have made a decision for themselves to say i dont want drink today.
00:42:55: I think you don't exclude yourself from that.
00:42:57: It's not even such a big deal anymore because it's de facto already been banished from society, right?
00:43:03: So... You're not allowed to do it indoors any more and i mean thats really good thing but its has pushed the side of bit.
00:43:10: That is why.. I dont' think we experienced this anymore.
00:43:15: that was push so hard by others in comparison.
00:43:21: But if u think about it Not so long ago Big big tobacco companies were still advertising that it's healthy right until eventually such clear data came out.
00:43:33: and Then this trend came along That you really don't smoke anymore said you stop, right?
00:43:37: And then you really have a good reason to stop.
00:43:39: Maybe also realize okay That's why I actually feel so bad with it Right.
00:43:42: um i think with smoking It's much much clearer Although it actually shouldn't be any clearer than with alcohol, right.
00:43:50: So it's exactly the same.
00:43:54: That's a bit of a shame, but I think as I said so.
00:43:56: So I think As long as you keep educating people about it and as long as people Have more and more touch points with health issues related to it The more will disappear all by itself.
00:44:07: that's why also don't think the ban from the beginning?
00:44:10: I don't Think we'll need it.
00:44:12: i still think It would theoretically be a net benefit.
00:44:14: But I don' t think We'll Need it because Because People Will Eventually Make The Right Decision All On Their Own right.
00:44:20: so in the end I also don't think if cocaine were legal now that all of a sudden ninety percent of Germans would take cocaine, right?
00:44:30: It just won't happen.
00:44:31: Most people will still clearly know okay cocaine is just bad Right.
00:44:35: um i'm definitely not going to do it right or maybe once every few years.
00:44:39: because Because I somehow think the feeling is great, right But you won't do it regularly right and I think that will come all by itself.
00:44:47: but there's still this With some people you can't get this mindset out of their heads that like one glass a day two glasses A Day, That's not alcoholism.
00:44:55: That somehow part Of it?
00:44:56: That's just what I do.
00:44:57: but that relaxes me in the evening i sleep better.
00:45:01: They they really think that right.
00:45:03: But You Can You Can Clearly Say It Really Is Its Not A Normal A normal Relationship with Alcohol?
00:45:10: and That is And That Is Too Much and even if it might hurt to hear that and also an Also To Hear It Very Clearly.
00:45:17: That is that's not meant to be judgmental because like it's not something personal where you say You're worth less just because you drink alcohol, but it's just meant to Be a little wake-up call.
00:45:27: Where do you say hey?
00:45:27: This Is an urgent issue.
00:45:30: Look into that or It should be A Little Wake Up Call Like I want To look Into this Now so that i don't Do that Anymore Or That I Just Drink Alcohol Less Often and Drink Less Alcohol Simply Because Its Not A Healthy Way to Treat Your Own Body And Yet Everyone Is Responsible for Themselves.
00:45:44: So Thats Why its Nothing Judgmental.
00:45:47: You should just do it with the awareness and, uh... With a conscience that you're not doing yourself any favors.
00:45:53: If you still do anyway then That's your own decision.
00:45:56: I mean nobody is obligated to be healthy.
00:45:58: We don't have a duty To Be Healthy Right?
00:46:01: But everyone Is to some extent responsible for themselves And i think we would wish There was more education That these persistent myths Would sort of say goodbye Like The Healthy Glass Of Red Wine.
00:46:12: And I also think what contributes to that is the wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks That are out there which also taste really good.
00:46:20: That Also makes a contribution.
00:46:22: in The past people always said wow, but they're only two or three Non alcoholic beers and They all taste different than their bit sweeter.
00:46:27: and that's not the case anymore.
00:46:28: There are plenty of non alcoholic beers.
00:46:31: that tastes exactly like a beer.
00:46:32: Only they just don't have alcohol in them right?
00:46:34: Yeah
00:46:34: Exactly But yeah, they taste good now too.
00:46:37: so at least there's a good selection that Is big enough.
00:46:40: There are some that are a bit sweeter, Some more bitter.
00:46:44: That's maybe not quite the case with wine yet although I've also tried many non-alcoholic wines because there is an ever growing selection in supermarket and sure some taste like grape juice but they're really delicious.
00:46:56: so you still have this ritual of raising glass together.
00:47:00: In end it exactly same as does it has to be vegan meat?
00:47:05: Can't just something else?
00:47:06: thats real?
00:47:08: Does always had to this substitute product, that's what you should maybe ask yourself sometimes.
00:47:15: So I don't know... You drink Coke Zero instead?
00:47:19: It is certainly not the healthiest drink either but it will definitely come off better than with alcohol and it doesn't always have to be replaced right away by a non-alcoholic substitute which tastes exactly like the same.
00:47:31: That's actually just a habit!
00:47:34: A habit where at some point When you haven't done it for a few months, then.
00:47:39: You don't miss it anymore either.
00:47:40: is actually just that right?
00:47:41: That's the crazy thing.
00:47:43: It's just to have it and that's why people want these substitute products.
00:47:47: But I think even this vegan meat alternatives that was-that Was a trend for years And an insane amount of money went into it.
00:47:54: Now its not even interesting any more.
00:47:56: Don't hear much about it anymore.
00:47:57: An insane number of companies have gone bust too
00:48:00: Exactly!
00:48:00: Beyond Meat was also i think that original one but they're definitely not doing well.
00:48:05: And in the end, everyone realized like that's just not real.
00:48:09: So why do I have to do?
00:48:11: That right?
00:48:12: and uh i'd say non-alcoholic beer...I think there are really good ones by now!
00:48:16: I also know a few examples that have turned out really very very good.
00:48:20: um but it doesn't always have to be that you can also just drink something else..and there are now these fiber sodas.
00:48:28: so many cool ideas out there also protein sodas where hey actually tastes pretty good.
00:48:34: I can drink that easily now, and then maybe i've even reached my protein target.
00:48:38: Even better.
00:48:39: So what?
00:48:40: why does it always have to be like?
00:48:41: That And white white can't consuming health Somehow be a social thing right?
00:48:46: Why don't people sit down together and drink a protein shake together?
00:48:49: Mm-hmm and really did something good for themselves.
00:48:52: Why doesn't always have To Be A beer Right?
00:48:55: so in the end It's just a matter of habit right and I think more and More Like cafes and bars are also picking up on that, but in the end they just offer things like that.
00:49:04: And I think in ten-twenty years it might even be the exception that alcohol is actually drunk in some places But it will be completely different than normal bars outside.
00:49:12: maybe It'll be you drink something nonalcoholic then there's a few tables that actually drink right?
00:49:18: Most people meet to drink something completely normal.
00:49:22: In the end its pure matter of habit and it will break all by itself.
00:49:27: simply with this knowledge And this self, also admitting to yourself that it's just not good and never is good.
00:49:35: That's it!
00:49:36: I think at a certain point the dynamic flips especially group dynamics which are why people still drink alcohol so often.
00:49:43: if you're out in groups of four or five people Are you still going to be the person who says, I'm ordering a beer anyway?
00:49:52: Or will you also get swept up by this group dynamic that leads many people to drink alcohol today even though they might not want just because everyone else is drinking.
00:50:01: Is it then looking ahead?
00:50:02: maybe in case everybody stops drinking alcohol and one person may have said he would've had wine or beer or white wine spritzer today but won't drink anything either as well every other isn't drinking.
00:50:15: what's my benefit from it?
00:50:16: so i'll skip all together right.
00:50:18: Yeah, totally.
00:50:20: I'd even say in our social circle... ...I think the pressure and other direction is actually much greater.
00:50:25: so for us it's more like okay yeah you almost have to justify drinking a beer Even though we still do sometimes enjoy doing that right?
00:50:33: But um i-i think already there are many little bubble groups now where thats the case And also found that super interesting
00:50:42: Um..
00:50:44: I also think if go to college prep High school and not a regular high school that alcohol actually plays A much bigger role there because you're at That school for much longer, right?
00:50:54: You're There until the twelfth grade.
00:50:55: The others might already be transitioning to an apprenticeship And Actually working full-time or At least almost Full time.
00:51:03: I Kind of have the feeling when i looked over at the people i still knew from elementary School who were doing apprenticeships We drank so Much more alcohol in high school we had So many More parties did so much more.
00:51:14: This is also just a story From my bubble And I don't know if it's true, but i think in general this whole higher education path including college and all that leads to an insane amount of alcohol consumption.
00:51:26: Right?
00:51:27: Also too an insane number.
00:51:28: normalization on the topic.
00:51:30: when you look at for example a younger cousin who just turned eighteen recently or nineteen he is barely drunk any alcoholic.
00:51:36: last few years like huh!
00:51:39: To me... When we were sixteen fifteen there was twice a month some house party.
00:51:45: It was completely normal and everyone did it, right?
00:51:49: And today somehow I feel like its already become so much less in comparison.
00:51:54: Like the ten-year age gap.
00:51:56: but yeah that's just a personal anecdote.
00:51:59: Yeah above all i think in younger generation it has become more occasion based and less of this classic routine of drinking regularly.
00:52:08: now Especially in construction industry is still very common.
00:52:13: Yeah, you still drink your two or three beers in the evening.
00:52:16: Or on some construction sites cases of beer sell like hotcakes right?
00:52:22: But that will also change at some point and I think it's nice That this movement exists now The sober generation which makes It a bit more socially acceptable And i think takes the pressure off many people to say You absolutely have To drink alcohol Right!
00:52:38: And we...I Think In the..i don't know Which episode.
00:52:41: We already said This.
00:52:42: anyway If you treat your body well, then.
00:52:45: You will feel alcohol much more strongly so that if you haven't drunk alcohol for a while and then you have a beer or drink again?
00:52:54: You'll feel disproportionately worse the next day than the person you drank with who might've had three beers but drinks much, much more regularly right.
00:53:04: That's just a sign paid a little attention to your health.
00:53:10: It has nothing to do with you suddenly not being able to tolerate alcohol at all anymore, right?
00:53:15: But of course You tolerated worse because Your body didn't have To learn how to deal With it any more and in that respect its just A good sign And shouldn't encourage you to say now I Just Have to get used to it again Right then i'll be fine.
00:53:29: Then this shift In perspective is the best thing you can Do.
00:53:33: We have few tips on How to handle Alcohol better how to tolerate it better.
00:53:40: The most important thing is definitely that you don't drink too late in the evening because it completely messes up your whole sleep architecture.
00:53:49: I mean, i dont want say harmful but its less destructive if u have a glass at lunch than when u drink it in the evenings Because there's a direct effect on sleep.
00:54:02: If u drink at lunch ,the body still has half-a day.
00:54:06: Then just drink a lot of water, drink lots of fluids.
00:54:10: If you've really been out and wake up the next day... You can mix electrolytes into your water maybe not even on that night but also in the same evening.
00:54:19: so before I go to sleep i'll hydrate my body again.
00:54:25: That is actually the most important thing when it does happen.
00:54:28: And we have had too much to drink right?
00:54:31: Even though we are talking about nothing else than how zero The best.
00:54:38: But as I said, it's just about at least having something ready.
00:54:42: but even electrolytes won't ensure you have a great Sunday the next day right?
00:54:46: They're supposed to make sure that you recover and give your body more tools for dealing with it better!
00:54:53: That doesn't make this acetaldehyde breakdown any faster.
00:54:57: You just need to get through it.
00:54:58: It is pure function of time And nothing can be taken or drink will make you, yeah.
00:55:09: Tolerate the alcohol better.
00:55:11: and another small widespread misunderstanding is they also say oh if you go out then just eat well beforehand and eat greasy food Then You'll tolerate The Alcohol.
00:55:24: Better Well The Alcohol It Gets Into Your Blood Just The Same Right.
00:55:27: So Whether You Drink Alcohol On An Empty Stomach Or Whether You Yeah Its Release Slower You Just Don't Get That Buzz As Quickly.
00:55:35: but all five beers you drank still have to be processed by the body just the same.
00:55:40: It's not like a certain part of it is excreted, everything that goes in ends up in the blood.
00:55:45: for that alcohol as-as you said at the beginning way too permeable.
00:55:49: That means it gets into everywhere anyway because its fat and water soluble has no problem with the gut barrier.
00:55:53: it getes into the blood very quickly from the blood then gets into cells very quickly And the alcohols end up in your body.
00:56:00: Its released differently.
00:56:02: The buzz comes later But it comes.
00:56:07: you did drink it after all.
00:56:08: Yeah, yeah no tricks.
00:56:10: I mean there aren't really any wild tricks.
00:56:12: So I just decided for myself i try to never drink anything After ten p.m anymore.
00:56:17: that's already way too late anyway but um...but I think That makes a huge difference and usually also leads To you going home by midnight at the latest which honestly is Also A good thing because nothing Good ever Really happens like Nothing Really useful after Midnight.
00:56:31: to be honest Usually You've Already Got I'll say Pareto principle, the best part of the evening.
00:56:37: And yeah electrolytes are probably still the best hack right?
00:56:40: What i found quite interesting which at least makes some sense mechanistically is that this whole conversion Of acetaldehyde to acetate so To The Good Acetate From The Bad Astelheid Is actually NAD dependent.
00:56:57: So you could Actually Think About Whether You Shouldn't Also Take NAD boosters on the day and the day after right to support that a bit.
00:57:06: It's it's a hypothesis so far, Right?
00:57:08: It hasn't been done in a study yet But it's definitely the case that this enzyme is NAD dependent, right And if you're maybe A bit NAD deficient That can of course make a difference.
00:57:19: but otherwise electrolytes are definitely The best call ideally before after end the next morning too and then You'll get through it somehow
00:57:27: which would in turn mean that people who have a high NAD level must also have a slightly better metabolism.
00:57:32: Maybe a bit faster, but on the other hand of course if the enzyme isn't more abundant I think so.
00:57:35: i think in the end The most important thing is of course how often Is the enzyme actually expressed?
00:57:39: or that's genetic?
00:57:40: In the end right But then Of course the question is can it really work smoothly?
00:57:44: Right and I think from the moment you Have A halfway okay NAD level everything's fine.
00:57:48: I Think It's More From The Moment Where Its Like Really Low.
00:57:51: So That'S More I Think.
00:57:52: Then So The Deficiency Or The Under Supply Is The Problem Rather Than than A High Level.
00:57:57: And otherwise the question is also, Is the effect really that big?
00:58:01: I mean if in the end it breaks down ten percent faster It sounds like a lot at first.
00:58:07: How much you actually notice of it In The End?
00:58:10: That's always-that's Always the Question right whether You Really Perceive It in A Way That You Feel Better By Five PM Instead Of Six PM Now.
00:58:18: But i Mean Maybe There'll Be A Study On At Some Point.
00:58:22: You Never Know.
00:58:23: Well, with that I think we've discussed and debated the alcohol topic in full detail.
00:58:30: If there are any questions from your side at home feel free to ask us leave a comment on Spotify or otherwise write an email to podcastatbeyondlivespan.de.
00:58:40: Alcohol is a very polarizing topic.
00:58:42: We also posted a snippet of two on social media before And it caused alot lot need for discussion.
00:58:47: So were already curious how this happens.
00:58:52: Otherwise, thank you very much for listening.
00:58:53: Thanks for
00:58:57: watching!
